OK, Who Besides Me, Got Burned on An Internet Scam?

3 years ago I used to sell quite a bit on ebay. I was selling Harley Davidson Black Hills Gold rings. Some guy tells me they can not get these rings in his country and he would like to buy a bunch of them so he can resell them.

Now this made sense to me because I know in Holland, for example, the Harley Davidson Anniversary items were not being sold. (I made a killing on ebay to people in Holland)

He sends me a check for $2500.00 tells me to send as much merchandise as he can buy for that much and if there is any money left over, donate it to charity. He gives me an address for his favorite charity.

Now remember, this was 3 ago. The Nigerian scams were not exposed yet.

I used to bank at one of those banks where they won’t let you have cash back until the check clears so when the check, which looked like a cashier’s check and had the Veri-Sign icon on it, I deposited it in my account.
I left for my annual week to Sturgis the next day. While I was there, I used my ATM card to see if the check cleared. It did. So I went ahead and purchased $2000 worth of the Black Hills gold.

When I got home, and thankfully, BEFORE I mailed out the rings. A detective appeared at my door and wanted to know why I cashed a counterfeit check!

I had to pay back the entire $2500, which I argued against and lost, because the bank should have recognized that it was fake.

I called the FBI, they told me there is NOTHING THEY CAN DO ABOUT SCAMS OUT OF NIGERIA.
So be aware, people.

I am looking into buying timeshare and I was wondering if you think its a good deal or am I getting ripped off

I live in PA and Im in Virginia Beach right now. I have a chance to buy timeshare on this beach. One bedroom, small kitchen, oceanfront view with personal deck. We get 7 days a year and getaways for about 50% off reg price. The price of the condo was $36,000 and was sold to us for $11,700 because somebody just upgraded their condo. I don’t know if this is a good deal or what? Its through Gold Key Resorts and I can exchange my condo for many places throughout the country for $139. Also do you think I could resell for more than I paid for it? Since its worth that. They said it would actually cost them more to get this condo number back on the list than it would be to sell for what the other people owed or paid into. Im just learning about timesharing. I heard it was a good deal and then I heard no cause of the way the market is now. Also I heard yes and no about writing it off on your taxes. Is this true? Any info and help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Yeah, the maintenance fees, insurance, upkeep, etc. is $400 a year. Plus interest is 15.9%. We would have to pay $1200 down and $175/per month for 10 yrs. Thanks for your help guys! Guess this is a ripoff!
